It all started with love for baking.

Sugar Blooms and Cakes Inc. is a Cake Shop that opened up in 2011 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The Mother-Daughter duo, Genevieve Melegrito and Marie Mallari, are the sweetness behind Sugar Blooms and Cakes Inc.

While residing in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea at the time, Genevieve started her love for baking. It was not until 1995 when she launched her Cake business. Serving most of Port Moresby, Genevieve’s cakes and pastries were loved and enjoyed by many, including the Governor General, and First Lady of Papua New Guinea at the time.

In 2004, the family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba and seven years later opened up the first location of Sugar Blooms and Cakes on Selkirk Ave. Soon after, Sugar Blooms expanded to Mc Phillips St. in August of 2015.

Genevieve has always made sure to bring the Filipino homebaked goodness to every client. The best sellers include the delicious and heavenly Ube Macapuno cake, creamy and chewy Sans Rival, and soft pillowy Ensaimada.

Marie joined the team in 2012, as a happy accident. Initially on her way to becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic, she decided to help out in the Bakery. She soon discovered she had a knack for Cake Decorating, and fell in love with it! Marie decided to decline her acceptance into Chiropractic school in the States.

To develop her daughter’s skills, Genevieve sent Marie to learn under the instruction of many of Cake Decorating’s best – Margie Carter, Maisie Parish, Joshua John Russell, Marina Sousa, Handi Mulyana, Mayen Orido, and Karen Portaleo to name a few.

In 2022, Marie lead her team to victory, as they won the cake competition: The Big Bake Holiday Season 3 on the Food Network! Competitors were required to make a larger than life cake, with dynamic elements, tasted delicious, in a span of 5 hours! Marie’s team took home the title of Big Bake Champion, as well as the sweet prize of $10,000!

The company’s cakes have won many other awards from Seven Oaks Foundation – One Sweet Affair Cake Competition, to receiving coverage from Canadian bridal Magazine Weddingbells

Everything in their kitchen is made from scratch, using only premium ingredients. It is real homemade goodness, and no baking shortcuts! The Mother-Daughter duo, together with their very hardworking and dedicated team are behind every delicious cake and pastry that comes out of their kitchen.

Passion and love goes into every cake, and the final outcome is truly heaven in every bite!
